What are the Side Effects of Social Media Marketing?It Isn't Always About Closing a SaleThere are plenty of mixed opinions about the good, the bad, and the ugly of social media marketing. Is it necessary? Why do we have to do it? It is a waste of time! I can't measure the effectiveness! It takes too long! etc. etc. etc. There is validity to each one of these complaints but there is also tremendous value one gets from participating in social media marketing/networking and they don't all have a price tag attached. Many small business owners are sole proprietors and don't have a staff to help them out or co-workers to bounce ideas off. Many of us have backgrounds in the corporate world where we are used to the benefits of being surrounded by others of the human species - not just our pets. Although a pet can be a comforting presence and nice to snuggle with, they don't offer much in the way of business support. They are rather useless in brainstorming sessions. I would like to express my personal thanks to Laura Sherman for putting together and running a group on Linkedin called Bloggers helping Bloggers. This group has turned into a supportive community of individuals who help each other promote their blog by commenting and re-tweeting, led to continued networking outside of the group walls, and has been a platform that has led to some collaborative projects that benefit the parties involved. Not too bad a side effect of social networking is it? WIth that said, I would like to formally introduce the Small Business Marketing Doctor Project. This is a 24/7 live and pre-recorded web show that I just launched a few days ago. My mission for this site is to offer value to small business owners in many different areas - areas that will be covered by those who would like to be a part of this project. As a contributor, you will be given your own web show to design, promote, share, etc. however you see fit as long as it is in line with the mission of the show. I am still learning about all the really neat functionality of this platform and hope to be able to learn more as we move forward with those of you who would like to participate. Moving forward as we add new content via different web shows, my hopes are that we can learn together how to best utilize the web show functionality to its greatest potential. There is no "one size fits all" approach to how you can add your web show. I will be working with each contributor individually to determine what scenarios work best for them as far as creating their custom-branded web show template, uploading the videos to their site, scheduling live broadcasts and/or events, etc. Below is a brief summary of some of the web show functionality:

For those of you who don't know me personally, you don't know that I am a born skeptic. Maybe it is because I live in NY, maybe it is because I am an Aries and as such, stubborn and hard to convince, or maybe it is because I am what I like to refer to as a realist. In any event, no offense to those marketers who are "into" MLM business ventures, but my usual reaction to any email I receive about one of these opportunities is to DELETE as quickly as my hands can move across the keyboard. And those "WAIT – DON'T GO…" messages that pop up after I hit the "delete" button really annoy me. With that said, when an old friend of mine approached me with MyVideoTalk MLM, I was my usual skeptic self and gave her a hard time with all my typical complaints about MLM's. However, I have known this friend since HS and I know that she is telling me the absolute truth. She earned $1600 in her second week with MyVideoTalk, I have no doubt that this is not an exaggeration or misleading because of the source of the information.
